Instrument Science and Technology Discipline


As a secondary instrument discipline of instrument science and technology, measurement technology and instruments is a synthetic discipline permeated and integrated mutually by optics, electronics, precision machinery, sensor technology, automatic control technology, computer technology, network and communication technology, information processing technology and other disciplines. It aims to train advanced engineers and research talents who master the knowledge structure of modern testing, information acquisition and processing, electronic technology, automatic control, computer and network communication, and are engaged in research, design and development in the fields such as the smart monitoring, fault diagnosis, computer measurement and control and instrumentation engineering.


Measurement technology and instruments discipline was founded in HHU in the 1990s. After ten years of development, we have built a united and dynamic academic team with reasonable knowledge structure. Thanks to the school employment background, we have formed our own characteristics in the research and development of measurement technology and instruments in water conservancy and hydropower projects. In the process of construction and development, we focus on strengthening the characteristics and exploring new fields as well. We have developed professional advantages gradually in the fields such as the development of intelligent instrument and meter, inspection based on machine vision, measurement and control technology, the application of embedded technology and the bus technology, the development of automatic measurement and control system. When undertaking national, provincial and multi-level, multi-type scientific research projects with horizontal collaboration, we pay attention to the transformation of scientific research achievements at the same time. A number of the testing technologies have been applied in the water conservancy and hydropower, environmental testing and other fields.


Measurement technology and instruments has been applied in communication engineering, computer science and technology, electronic information technology, control science and engineering and other science areas, which provides a broad field of employment for the graduates. Except for continuing education, most of the graduates take up an occupation in scientific research institutes, high-tech companies, state-owned enterprises, foreign enterprises, joint ventures, institutions of higher learning and other units. The discipline emphasizes teaching basic and professional theories, improving students’ abilities of engineering practice, research and development and cultivating spirits of innovation and collaboration, which contributes to a promising employment prospects and optimistic employment situation.
