Control Science and Engineering Discipline


Control science and engineering is the study of control theory, method, technology and engineering application. With the equilibrium process and the phenomenon of the control system in the engineering field as the major objects, and the mathematical methods and computer technology as the main tools, it researches the mathematical essence of the control strategy, as well as the theory, technology and methods of the control system modeling, analysis, synthesis, design, and implementation. Control theory and control engineering is one of the five secondary disciplines of control science and engineering.


HHU received the master’s degree in control theory and control engineering discipline in 1995 and the first level master’s degree in control science and engineering discipline in 2005. After years of persistent efforts, it has scored remarkable achievements in many research areas such as adaptive control, intelligent control, optimal control, system identification and modeling, computer measurement and control system, water conservancy and hydropower automation, electric drive automation, process control, pattern recognition, switching power supply control system and so on. Researches are undertaken mainly in the following four directions: complex nonlinear system control and optimization, water conservancy and hydropower automation, motion control system and new energy automation.


The discipline regards echelon construction and boasts 5 professors (including doctorate supervisors), 11 associate professors, 16 teachers with doctoral degree at present. Those professors, associate professors and young doctors compose a united and dynamic academic team with reasonable knowledge structure. In the long term work, this team has accumulated abundant teaching and research experiences and yielded fruitful results. Up to now there are about 400 graduate students and 800 papers published, among which more than 300 are cited by SCI, EI and ISTP, and quite a few of them won awards. In recent years, the discipline has undertaken and completed many significant projects, including the national natural science fund projects, national high and new research projects and military projects, and produced a series of scientific achievements with high academic standards as well as satisfactory economic and social benefits at the same time.


Control theory and control engineering is a discipline with wide application range, strong practicality and high demand. It accelerates the development of several related disciplines and promotes the crossing and penetration of different disciplines actively and powerfully. Through the close integration with electrical engineering, water conservancy and hydropower, measurement technology, new energy and other disciplines, it contributes to the crossing and penetration of different disciplines. In the construction of the first level master degree in control science and engineering, we strive for a first level doctor degree in control theory and control engineering and develop a first-class team which engaged in the study of automation in multi-field such as water conservancy, electrical automation, energy and so on.
